English Language Academy Malta

The English Language Academy was established as a language school in Sliema in 1988. We have tried to keep our school small so we can offer a really friendly atmosphere and personal service. The maximum number of students we have is about 180. The school is staffed by a team of qualified, dedicated and experienced teachers who are native or bilingual speakers of English. Due to the success of the school we have recently opened a school on the island of Gozo. The main English Language Academy school is in Sliema, which is a lively town in the heart of Malta a short ferry ride from the capital of Malta,

Valletta. Click here for a small map or here for a larger map of Sliema . Every classroom is air-conditioned and we have an Internet Cafe which is free. The school is 2 minutes from what is known as the Ferries, where you can go by ferry to Valletta. The beach is 5 minutes away, as well as a beautiful seafront promenade. The famous Malta sandy beaches are about 40 minutes away by bus. Direct Communicative Technique methods are used in all our classes. These are currently considered the most effective systems of expanding the students’ knowledge of vocabulary, structures and idioms. Using only the English language, the teachers encourage the students to practise the language. Their interest is stimulated through new situations and alternative ways of expression.

Our English courses cater for both fluency and accuracy. The English Language Academy is also one of the few teacher training centres in Malta. The English Language Academy is fully licensed as a school by the Malta Ministry of Education, is a founder member of FELTOM(Federation of English Language Teaching Organisation in Malta). The school prepares students for international examinations such as IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge examinations. The level of each participant is carefully assessed on the first day at school, before the commencement of the course.

Tests can be sent for and completed before the commencement of the course if desired. Classes are normally run between Mondays & Fridays. Because of varying travel schedules alternative arrangements can be made. Students are given basic handouts according to their level and these are complemented with material from the school’s Resource Library. Audio and video material may also be used. There is a nominal charge of Lm 5 for the course materials provided. On completion of the course the participant is awarded a Certificate of Attendance providing the student has attended a minimum of 80% of the course.
